Essay Abstract

 

 

This essay explores the film adaptation of Oliver Twist produced by Roman Polanski in comparison to the original text by Charles Dickens.  It focuses on the plot lines and characters that were omitted and maintained throughout the film.  It specifically looks at the character of Fagin and Polanski's reinterpretation of him, as well as his relationship to Oliver.  Additionally the essay critiques the cinematography that Polanski used in the film as a way to highlight themes and ideas that were present in the novel.
